What to wear?

So you have been working hard and you have quite a few gigs lined up, but most of them are 'background' gigs. The outfit brief is either black or black and white. Hmm, not very exciting after a while... you know you can't wear that same black cocktail dress that you wore to the last 3 gigs, but you can't afford much else.

Below are a few suggestions of different staple, inexpensive outfits that you can wear to a gig. A little mix and matching can go a long away to make you feel good.

Before you look at my suggestions, here are a few things to remember when buying gig outfits:

Think about what the venue is like. If you are going to be playing outside, make sure you aren't wearing a dress that could blow up in the wind. While playing your instrument you certainly won't have a spare hand to hold your skirt down.

Many choices of outfits will depend on what instrument you play and whether or not you stand or sit while you play. If you are playing outside in the evening, it may get quite cold, consider wearing leggings or stockings with your cocktail dress. It instantly transforms it into a different outfit. You may also want to have a jacket that is warm, and you can slip on between sets as the weather cools the later it gets. If you are going to need to perform in something warm, make sure that it is still comfortable for you to play your instrument.

Even though heels always look smart, if you are going to be standing and performing for 3 hours, get a low wedge or start with your gorgeous heels and take a pair of black pumps for later in the evening. By that time people usually have checked out the band and are now enjoying a good drink and conversation.

If the function is a wedding, be careful not to wear all white. It can be considered disrespectful to the bride as traditionally she is the only one who should be wearing white. Not everyone is so traditional anymore, but unless you know the client, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Mr Price really has such good deals and options. They have so many beautiful things, and if you look on their site they also pair every outfit with jewelry and shoes. These are my best picks from their site.
