Many of the girls doing music at the school where I teach are interested in going into the field of music therapy, and since not it is not a very commonly known career, the music society invited a therapist to chat to the girls and give them and idea of what it may entail and how to go about studying to be a music therapist.
I must confess, that I had little knowledge of the profession myself, and found it incredible interesting. Two of my colleagues and I were quite tempted to go into that field. So I did a bit more digging and was amazed to find so much more information from South African online sites.
Not only is music therapy such a wonderful tool, it is also proof to me, that music is much more powerful than we sometimes give it credit, and I am more aware that I can always suggest it as a possible career path to the parents for my students.
